If you want to save on paint and to have the job done like a professional, you might what to check these best-rated home paint sprayers. I am using them myself, so this is a first-hand report.
Why this text about home paint sprayers
We moved into our new house recently and as expected, there were large areas to paint, and this means standard walls and wood walls. In the past, I used an old-fashioned air-less sprayer, but this was very long ago, and at that time I was just helping the person who was painting the house. Namely, the sprayer was with a hand pump, so one person would pump and the other would paint; well, I was the one who did the harder part, pumping of course.
Technology has changed a lot and when I started searching in our local shops, I could only see electric paint sprayers. The one that I am using now is the third already. The reason is that the first I bought was incredibly noisy. So I brought it back to the shop and complained, they offered a new of the same type, and I asked them to try on the spot, and you guess, it was the same noisy thing.
After that, I bought another one, more expensive, and it did not work. The one in the picture above is the sprayer I am using these days, this is Wagner Flexio W570. Now, am I happy about this? Well, the feelings are mixed, and here is why.
• First, these things can be heavy, be ready for this. At least, this is how I felt about my sprayer because I am not used to doing such works. Of course, they are only moderately heavy when they are empty, but you see the white container in the pictures, this is where you add paint.
• Second, if you are a beginner like me, it can be difficult if you paint white on white, or if you use the same color that is on the wall in general. The reason is that you have no idea what you are doing, you do not see how the paint is distributed. In my case, when I finished my first room and let it dry, I realized I had to do it again, and I did it in a classic way with a roller.
• Third, you will have to use some plastic to protect areas that are not painted, but the machine creates a lot of drafts so make sure that all your plastic covers are properly taped, otherwise they will be blown away and you will have a mess to clean paint afterward.
• Fourth, you have to be very careful when it comes to cleaning, see the picture below. There are narrow nozzles and channels, and this must be cleaned carefully before you store the sprayer after you have finished painting.
I have seen some use a plastic bag and put it in the container, and then add the paint in the bag. Perhaps this can save you from cleaning the container, but with water-based paints, washing the container is easy in any case. This might make sense when you paint metal and wood, but I have not tried it so cannot say much.
Other than that, this is a really handy machine. The part with the container attaches to the part with the engine and its handle very easily. You will need a longer power cable of course, the picture above shows how it looks in my paint sprayer. As for the noise, I was quite happy with this particular machine.
When you compare this with the classic roller painting, you will cover the painted area much faster for sure. But there is more, you can put the first paint layer by spraying up and down, and after that, you can continue by spraying horizontally and this can be done without the usual waiting for the paint to dry. The result is surprisingly good, I started using this method after watching a video from this brand on YouTube, you can see the same video here:
In the video below you will see a paint sprayer that looks almost exactly like my own, this is the model W590 and my own is W570. This is a demonstration from the manufacturer, I wish my own beginning with the machine was as smooth as this, please have a look:
Before you start using such a paint sprayer, I would warmly suggest the following:
- Find somebody who is really using it, and if possible see how it works. This will save you from trouble if you have no experience with such tools.
- Make sure that you have an area where you can test how the paint is distributed, similar to the video above. It is far easier if you have different colors of the wall and the new paint, otherwise, you will not have the best overview of what you are doing. This will also allow you to experiment with various options regarding the orientation of the nozzle and the power option. When my sprayer arrived, I had a large piece of thick paper in the package for this purpose, so I fixed it on the wall for testing the spray.
- If this is about wall painting, when you finish, dismantle everything and put in water. You can clean everything late, it will be easier. As you know, wall paint can easily be washed with water. In the end, I fill the reservoir with clean water and spray it out with maximum power, so this should remove all pieces of paint that might have left inside.
In general, work with paint sprayers need some practice, but the result should look great. With my paint sprayer, I also have a smaller reservoir in the package, this is for wood painting. Have not used it yet but I might add some update here later.
One thing is certain: as mentioned above, because of my beginner’s mistakes I was using roller and sprayer simultaneously, and I am sure that a paint sprayer is a far more economical option than a classic roller. By this, I mean that you will definitely save a lot on paint. A classic roller consumes far more paint than such a modern electric paint sprayer. So your initial investment will pay off, I am sure about this. After all, some of these sprayers can be really inexpensive.
But I would not go for the cheapest, I paid my Wagner Flexio 570 around 120 Euro, this was in a local shop. It is on Amazon-US with a price that looks similar when converted to my currency. You will notice they sell it officially under the name Wagner Spraytech 0529011 FLEXiO 570 Paint Sprayer.
