The camping season is coming so it is the time to think about your camp hygiene. Start with these battery operated camping showers, all affordable, easy to use, and reliable devices.
There are several different types of these camping showers here in the list but the common feature is that water is forced through the shower due to battery power. This can be:
- A rechargeable battery.
- Or you switch the shower directly to your car battery.
The first type with rechargeable batteries allows for more mobility and they are suitable for hikers and mountaineers. In this case, you have a battery that can be recharged through a USB or you can do this with your car lighter switch.
Some will allow for one full hour of continuous use, so imagine how useful this can be on a tour with your friends. The water flow rate is typically 2-3 liters per minute. The weight is in the range 1.7 – 2 lb (0.77 – 0.91 kg) so for solo use, I do not think I would carry it in the pack, but for a group this may be a good option on the trail.
However, having such a device in the car and in your basecamp is a real luxury. You know this well if you have ever been in the mountains and you descend in the afternoon sweaty and dirty back to your camp.
Such devices also include a hook so you can attach it to the tree or your car, in some cases you will see also a suction cup so you can attach it on the smooth walls of your trailer, both options are shown in the top picture above.
How these battery-powered camp showers work
All you have to do is to switch it on and drop the pump into the water. It will operate until the battery is flat, but you can always stop it when necessary. Simpler models have a switch button on the pump so it goes into the water. This may not be so convenient for some users. If so, then choose a type with a cable extension that connects the pump with the switch box.
Normally they have a simple filter inside that stops larger items from water to get into the showerhead.
