Having a double-wide sleeping bag is convenient if you go camping with your partner. But such bags are also great for people who feel claustrophobic in a normal single sleeping pad. This is the case with me and I use a double sleeping bag whenever this is about car camping so the weight and packed size are not so important.
There is a variety of models here in the list, so if you are not familiar with such stuff here are a few tips that might help. If you plan to use such a bag in a cold environment, it is best to choose a hooded sleeping bag. You will have protection for the head and you can also cinch it around the face. For summer camping you will not need such a hood so you have plenty of options.
You will notice that these are very affordable sleeping bags, and from this you can be sure that those are synthetic-insulated items. Normally synthetic is far less packable than down and it is far more affordable as well. For a down-insulated pad, you would have to several times more.
But synthetic is also better if you plan to camp in wet and damp conditions. Even when wet, such synthetic insulation preserves its insulating features. If a synthetic insulated bag gets wet, it dries faster.
Regarding the shape, almost all of them are rectangular bags, and those are with and without a hood. For a cooler weather camping, mummy style is better suited in the sense that the volume in the bag is smaller and temperature efficiency is higher.
You will see some models that are 3-in-1 type, and those are indeed versatile items. The meaning is that you can unzip two pieces and use as solo bags, and when needed to use together with your partner, you zip them together.
Note that most of these sleeping bags are for summer camping only, a few are for up to 3-season use, and none of them is for winter camping.
